Ingredients

  • 2 filet mignon or ribeye steaks (6-8 oz each)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on for presentation)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon wedges for garnish
  • Extra chopped parsley for garnish

Directions

  1. Prepare the Steak: Start by patting the steaks dry. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare. If you like your steak more well-done, cook a bit longer. After searing, add a tablespoon of butter to the pan. Spoon the melted butter over the steak as it cooks for about a minute. When done, take the steak out of the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes.

  2. Cook the Shrimp: In the same pan you used for the steak, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook until it smells amazing, about 1 minute. Next, toss in the shrimp. Season with smoked paprika, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Cook the shrimp for about 2 minutes per side, until they turn pink and opaque. Finish by squeezing fresh lemon juice and adding chopped parsley on top.

  3. Assemble and Serve: Time to plate your meal! Place the steak alongside the garlic butter shrimp. Don’t forget to garnish with lemon wedges and some extra parsley for a burst of freshness.

  4. Enjoy: This delicious dish is great on its own or served with sides like mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, or a fresh salad. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your homemade surf and turf!

Tips to Make Steak and Garlic Butter Shrimp

  • Make sure your steaks are at room temperature before cooking. This helps them cook more evenly.
  • If you want extra flavor, you can marinate the steaks a few hours before cooking.
  • Feel free to adjust the spices based on your taste—add more red pepper flakes if you like it spicy!
  • For a beautiful presentation, serve the dish on a large platter with lemon wedges and parsley.
