Easy Chow Mein Sauce

Easy Chow Mein Sauce

A bold, balanced sauce that clings perfectly to stir-fried noodles and veggies — made in minutes with pantry staples.

Ingredients (makes about 1/2 cup of sauce):

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (adds richness – optional but recommended)

  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (adds sweetness and depth)

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp sugar (brown sugar or honey works too)

  • 2 tsp cornstarch (to thicken)

  • 1/4 cup water or chicken broth

  • 1 clove garlic, minced or 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Optional: 1/4 tsp ground ginger or fresh grated ginger

  • Optional: pinch of white pepper or chili flakes for heat

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Sauce:

    • In a small bowl or jar, whisk all ingredients together until smooth.

    • Make sure the cornstarch dissolves fully.

  2. Cook It with Noodles:

    • Stir-fry your meat/veggies/noodles.

    • Pour the sauce over the cooked ingredients in the hot pan.

    • Stir for 1–2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats everything.

Pro Tips:

  • No oyster sauce? Sub with a bit more hoisin or soy sauce.

  • Love spice? Add chili garlic sauce or Sriracha.

  • Double the batch and store extras in the fridge for up to 1 week.
