Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Southern Chocolate Cobbler is a delicious and indulgent dessert that combines a rich, gooey chocolate sauce with a cake-like topping. It’s often served warm, sometimes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Here’s a simple recipe you can try:

Ingredients:

  • For the cobbler:

    • 1 cup all-purpose flour

    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

    • 2 teaspoons baking powder

    • 1/4 teaspoon salt

    • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

    • 1/2 cup milk

    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • For the chocolate sauce:

    • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

    • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

    • 1 1/2 cups hot water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Prepare the cobbler batter:

    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.

    • Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until combined, but be careful not to overmix.

  3. Pour batter into pan:

    • Pour the batter into a greased 9×9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized casserole dish. Spread it evenly.

  4. Make the chocolate sauce:

    • In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and cocoa powder.

    • Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the batter in the baking dish.

    • Carefully pour the hot water over everything. Don’t stir it!

  5. Bake:

    • Bake the cobbler for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick comes out mostly clean. The sauce will form on the bottom, so don’t worry if the top appears a little less done.

  6. Serve:

    • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. It’s perfect served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Enjoy your Southern Chocolate Cobbler!
